OK, the cat is out of the bag... I got my Lucky Dog Flyer in the mail and visited the Lucky Dog web site, and here is what I found. Will the Lucky Dog plan save you money... yep! But most of the long distance 1010 dial around calling plans we offer will save you more.

WHO'S A LUCKY DOG? YOU OR THE CARRIER?.
10-10-345 offers a $0.10 rate for all calls. Pretty simple, however, there is a catch. They add a surcharge connection fee of 10 cents per call. 

Lucky Dog offers "Only 10˘ a minute anytime on all state-to-state calls from home." AND if you read the small print it really states, so I thought I would do it in a bit larger print :))

Lucky Dog is actually -- Only 10˘ a minute anytime on all state-to-state calls from home PLUS a low 10 cent connection fee per call. Hmm, that is 20 cents for the first minute...

Now if you do the math, you see that is twice as much as advertised rate of ten cents... Please check the rates we offer for your state. Our plans start at 5 cents a minute for interstate calling.

HOW DO THOSE LUCKY DOG DIAL AROUND PLANS WORK? 

The answer, well, yes, maybe, sort of, and no. The 1010345 commercials ask you to re-route your call over their long distance network, instead of using your primary long distance carrier. By doing so, you are charged at the assigned rates of the carrier's code you dialed, NOT the rates of your primary long distance carrier.

This is both good and bad news: if you currently pay more than 4-8 cents a minute from your long distance carrier then by using a dial around code to re-route your call, you save money on your long distance calling.
